FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- August, 2003 -- Operation Skate received a check for $5000 last week in the name of local youths Trey, Cale, Colt and Lake Murray. Their Arizona grandparents anonymously made the donation. It is the largest cash donation received by the community organization.

"This is an exciting gift for our group," said Kim Lynch, president and founder of Operation Skate. "This is the largest gift we've received to date. We expect many more like it in the near future. There is a lot of community support for this cause and the momentum increases every month. We simply need 49 more individuals or companies to come forward in a similar way and this park will be a reality."

Otherwise, the group needs 250 companies, families, foundations or individuals to donate $1000 each.

The Murray boys' donation qualifies for the Extreme Sponsorship level, the highest sponsorship level, and an opportunity for the naming rights to the park. The individual or company that donates the largest amount to the park will receive the right to the park name. Additionally, each sponsorship level provides promotional opportunities for donors. Companies and individuals interested in donation and sponsorship opportunities should call Operation Skate at 491-6552.

"I am glad people that are the same age as my parents understand how important a skate park will be to this community," said Patty Murray, daughter of the donors and mother of the boys in whose name the donation was made. "When the park opens, my four sons will get exercise, enjoy time with their friends and practice a very difficult sport all at the same time. The skate park will be great for this community and its youth."

The Murray boys will also receive honorary membership in the Friends of the Skate Park program that provides many benefits, including advance admission into the skate park before its public opening.

Operation Skate is the not-for-profit community effort building a public park designated for the safe practice of skateboarding, inline skating and BMX bicycling. The group secured two acres of land to build the park between the airport and the Alvarez Softball and Soccer Complex. The organization plans to raise funds in 2003, break ground in December and open the park in 2004. Donations are tax-deductible.
